Sainsbury’s and Argos to recruit 17,500 Christmas staff

Sainsbury’s and Argos have initiated a nationwide recruitment campaign to hire 17,500 seasonal workers across the UK, gearing up for the critical golden quarter and the peak Christmas trading period.

The temporary positions will span supermarkets, convenience stores, warehouses, Argos retail sites, and logistics networks. Workers will cover in-store restocking, online order picking, warehouse sorting, and home delivery support to handle surging holiday demand.

Sainsburys aware of the current competitive retail jobs market is offering fixed-term contracts ranging from four to twelve weeks, with the package including free meals during working shifts alongside an uncapped 10% staff discount across both Sainsbury’s and Argos, which increases to 15% on Fridays and Saturdays at Sainsbury’s stores.

“Christmas is always a special time for our customers and colleagues and our seasonal team members help make it happen,” said Tracey Clements, Chief Retail, Logistics and Supply Chain Officer at Sainsbury’s. “We look forward to welcoming thousands of new colleagues who will help us deliver great-tasting festive food, brilliant service and fantastic value across our stores, fulfilment centres and delivery operations.”

Applications have opened via the retailer’s dedicated recruitment portal and local store branches as major grocers assemble logistics and front-line capacity for year-end trading.
