Chillout rave music pioneers Groove Armada are once again bringing their expertise to TV commercials, but this time it’s not their music that’s being used but instead it’s their influence that Specsavers are after.
Specsavers has launched The Testlist, billed as the UK’s first club guestlist series for the over 50s and unlocked entirely by a free online hearing screener. -With the campaign tapping into research showing nearly three-quarters of over 50s still attend live music events, with over a quarter going out as often as they did 20 years ago.
The duo Groove Armada, who have both experienced hearing loss themselves, front the campaign and headline the first Testlist event: a DJ set at London’s Phonox on 15 October, timed to the 25th anniversary of their track Superstylin’.
The duo – comprising Andy Cato and Tom Findlay – have a long-standing relationship with major brand partnerships. Their 1997 chilled-out track “At The River” famously scored Marks & Spencer’s food advertising campaigns, while Fatboy Slim’s high-energy remix of their 1999 hit “I See You Baby” soundtracked a memorable series of Renault Megane commercials. More recently, Cato appeared in a campaign for power tool manufacturer Makita, which highlighted both their hit “Superstylin'” and his work as a regenerative farmer.
