Aldi is set to open 16 new stores across the UK in the coming months as the discount supermarket continues to expand its national estate.
The new locations will include Watford and Hoxton in London, Hattersley in Greater Manchester and Balsall Common in the West Midlands. Aldi currently operates more than 1,080 stores across the UK and has a long-term target of reaching 1,500 locations.
The latest openings follow the launch of a new store at Salford Quays last month and form part of Aldi’s planned £370 million investment in its store network during 2026.
The retailer said the expansion is aimed at bringing its value-focused offering to more communities while supporting local employment.
Jonathan Neale, managing director of national real estate at Aldi UK, said: “At Aldi, we’re committed to making high-quality, affordable food accessible to everyone, which is why we continue to invest in expanding our store network across the UK.
“Our £370 million investment in new stores this year will help us bring Aldi’s unbeatable value to even more communities, supporting local economies through our industry-leading pay for colleagues.”
The expansion comes after Aldi announced a £42 million investment in pay for store colleagues earlier this year. Store assistants now earn a minimum of £13.50 an hour nationally, rising to £14.47 depending on length of service. Within the M25, starting pay is £14.88 an hour, increasing to £15.20 with service.
Aldi has continued to invest heavily in its UK growth strategy in recent years, as competition among supermarket chains intensifies and retailers look to attract value-conscious shoppers through lower prices and wider store coverage.
