Aldi has been named the UK’s cheapest supermarket for June 2026, according to new analysis by consumer group Which?, marking the sixth consecutive month the discount retailer has topped the rankings this year.
The comparison was based on a basket of 95 everyday grocery items and found Aldi offered the lowest overall price. According to Which?, shoppers would have paid significantly more for the same basket at Tesco (£194.67), Sainsbury’s (£193.30) and Lidl (£164.79), while Waitrose was the most expensive at £229.88 – £67 more than Aldi.
The latest result means Aldi has remained unbeaten in the monthly Which? price comparison throughout the first half of 2026, following its recognition as Which?’s Cheapest Supermarket of the Year for 2025.
The retailer has also recently been named Which?’s Best Value Brand of the Year, with the consumer organisation recognising its combination of quality and low prices.
Julie Ashfield, chief commercial officer at Aldi UK, said the latest ranking reflected the retailer’s continued focus on value.
She said: “Being named Which?’s Cheapest Supermarket for the entire first half of this year is fantastic recognition of our unwavering commitment to offering customers the very best value.
“As families enjoy the football together this summer and look to stretch their budgets, these results prove they can save hundreds of pounds by switching to Aldi without compromising on quality.”
The findings come as grocery retailers continue to compete aggressively on price, with value remaining a key consideration for shoppers amid ongoing pressure on household budgets.
