The Trafford Centre near Manchester will have its own police station in a move to increase security at the shopping complex.
Manchester’s Trafford Centre is to get its own on-site police team. Thanks to a deal with Greater Manchester Police, eight officers will be patrolling the shopping centre by the new year.
The initiative is being fully funded by the centre itself for the next three years and will provide a continued and highly-visible presence. The full-time team will consist of one inspector, one sergeant and six PCs, with the unit in place by January..
Simon Layton, centre director at Trafford Centre, said: “The introduction of a full onsite police team reflects our commitment to providing a secure and welcoming environment for our visitors and retailers, whilst strengthening our ongoing relationship with Greater Manchester Police.”
Inspector Paul Ellis, who will lead the new GMP Trafford Centre Policing Team, added: “This is a unique collaboration with one of the most iconic venues in Greater Manchester and reinforces our commitment on continuing to keep the public safe by providing a dedicated high-visibility resource.”
