Aldi is forecasting its biggest ever Easter

Aldi has said its gearing up for the “biggest and best Easter yet” and expects to sell around 20m hot cross buns and 8.6m own-label chocolate eggs over the season.

With Easter falling earlier this year, the grocer predicts more families than eve will cook a roast and expects its lamb sales to rise by 900% during Easter week from the week before, and estimates 36 tonnes of its British Prime Gammon Joint is expected to be sold as well as 3m British potatoes, 1.65m carrots and 500,000 parsnips.

It also expects sales of its Veuve Monsigny champagne to jump 40% during the week of Easter, while Prosecco DOC sales will soar to 150% above normal trading periods.

Aldi UK managing director of buying Julie Ashfield said: “Shoppers have started to think about Easter even earlier this year, with items from our Easter range flying off the shelves already.

“Whether it’s our Specially Selected hot cross buns, the Easter staple of British lamb, or our award-winning British Wagyu Beef Tomahawk, there are more British-sourced delights than ever for Aldi shoppers to enjoy.”

The supermarket’s predictions come after it experienced record sales over Christmas. Aldi’s sales topped £1.5bn for the first time in the four weeks to 24 December, up 8% on 2022 levels.
